SOLINET/PALINET Merger

Some of you will have seen a recent message from SOLINET relating to the plans to merge the two networks into a new organization. As chair of the Board of SOLINET, I’ve the unique opportunity this year to participate in the complex and at times vexing process of trying to merge two groups together with different policies, cultures, and approaches to their business. What follows is an extract from a recent mailing from the Board of SOLINET to the governing members of the organizations (of which UK is one):

The strategic and operational benefits of this merger remain relevant to our initial vision, and will result in:

· Cost control and savings to members
· Applying operational best practices from both organizations
· Expanding our capacity for innovation
· Rapid implementation of new programs
· Enhanced technology leadership

Your vote as a Governing member is the next and final step in this process. Voting will begin on January 8th and continue through January 28th via a secure online site, followed by a special membership meeting. During the voting period, we will host optional webinars to answer any questions. More information about the voting process and these online sessions will be sent in early January. You can also find information at www.mergerupdate.org, a combined site for PALINET and SOLINET members.
