Committee and Working Group Charges

The Committee Structure document in SharePoint, Office of the Dean, Committees, FY10, has now been updated with charges for the following groups:

Research Commons Working Group – to draft the blue print including costs to repurpose the second floor in Young Library into a central location for faculty and graduate students to consult on research by bringing together traditional and innovative information services and by providing the store front for research services in collaboration with TASC and IT. To develop a timeline for proposed changes. The Research Commons will provide one place for the faculty member or graduate student to consult with experts in the application of technology to research along with the information resources and services traditionally offered through the library. The Research Commons will blend technology with traditional resources to serve as a center for a wide range of scholarly and pedagogical activities.

Reserves Working Group – to analyze current practices and develop processes and procedures for both print and electronic reserves system wide. Compile cost analysis of copyright expenses and how they are paid. Work with TASC and faculty to integrate reserves into Blackboard course management system.

Strategic Planning Working Group – to develop a draft strategic plan for 2009-2014 for the Libraries building upon the existing work done this past year:
· Libraries’ self study report
· Associate Dean presentations in the Rethinking Series
· New University strategic plan
· External review report
· White papers and notes from open forums to discuss
· Dean’s presentation to the faculty retreat
· Director of SLIS’ presentation to the faculty retreat
To develop a timeline in concert with the Dean and university deadlines for the creation of a draft plan with goals and tactical objectives; to present the draft document to the Libraries’ Executive Committee, and faculty and staff for discussion and comment. To finalize with the Dean the strategic plan by the university deadline for completion.

Web Advisory Committee – to work with Web Administration and Content Managers to update, administer and interpret web policies, guidelines and procedures, thereby ensuring the fulfillment of the Website's mission. Working with the Assessment Coordinator, collect user feedback on the effectiveness of the website and works with Web Administration and Content Managers to improve and enhance the Libraries website. When necessary, to act as interpreter of the policies, guidelines and procedures for the Libraries’ website. In particular, the WAC will oversee any change to the website that requires a systemic change in procedures.
